Śródmiejski Mall, the PKO Rotunda and Hotel Forum

This aerial view south shows Śródmiejski Mall (currently Stefana “Wiecha” Wiecheckiego Mall). On the right, the Wars Department Store. On the left, part of the Universal office building elevation. Straight ahead, the PKO Rotunda and Hotel Forum in the background.
The photograph was published in Hartwig’s 1984 album Warszawa, figure 27.
Built in 1965 as part of the East Wall complex on Marszałkowska Street, the Universal office building at 44 Jerozolimskie Avenue was demolished in 2016.
Designed by Jerzy Jakubowicz, with Stanisław Więcek and Włodzimierz Wojnowski responsible for its steel structure, the PKO Rotunda at 100-102 Marszałkowska Street was built in 1966. It was damaged by a 1979 gas explosion and reconstructed in the same year. In 2017, it was demolished and then rebuilt to a similar shape in 2019.
Designed by Swedish architect Sten Samuelson, Hotel Forum was built between 1972 and 1974.
