To Children Who Died for Warszawa, a sculpture by Ewelina Michalska, the First Biennale of Metal Sculpture

This view shows To Children Who Died for Warszawa, a sculpture by Ewelina Michalska created for the First Biennale of Metal Sculpture in 1968. It was part of the Car Gallery on Kasprzaka Street. The sculpture currently stands in Płk. Zdzisława Kuźmirskiego-Pacaka Square. The idea of the Biennale was to facilitate cooperation between manual workers and artists. About twenty local plants from the Warsaw district of Wola contributed iron scrap and the resources necessary to construct the sculptures. Thirty-five artists created as many as sixty objects. Unfortunately, due to lack of preservation, acts of vandalism, and a reconstruction of the city traffic scheme, only about a dozen of the art works have survived.
